PLATO

Unified Theme

Plato would like to see that a social website has a intriguing theme that is unified throughout.  Mormon.org seems to be doing that quite well.  Their aim, briefly, is to provide accurate information and opportunities for visitors to learn more (and even encourage members to contribute through their profiles).  There are plenty of places where a visitor may learn what those "mormons" are all about and, at least, become uniformly informed.

Inclusion of Everyone

The name of the website points at including everyone.  The full name of the church is rarely used among non-members, but rather by its popular nickname "mormon" or "the mormons."  That same feeling of trying to include everyone is spun throughout the site.  For example, members are able to post their profile on the site in order to make the website more real and palatable for viewers, instead of simply this organization speaking for itself.

Easy to Understand

The site has been put together well.  The landing page provides a good mix of the "big idea" and ways to get learn about the doctrine.  The approach of encouraging and allowing members of the church to provide their own stories is particularly neat because it is often easier for people to relate to other people.  Also, it provides viewers a place to learn what church members value (and possibly answer why they're seemingly so weird!)

Enticing Opportunity for Open Discussion

The site allows for live chats with missionaries of the church.  Through this feature, one may consider this the primary form of discussion between the site (or the organization behind it) and a visitor.  Other than this, one may consider the option to visit a church or reading the blog a way to participate, but on the whole, perhaps, this is a point on which mormon.org may wish to improve.
