Nietzsche on mormon.org

NIETZSCHE

Nietzsche was quite different than his contemporary on many counts, while quite similar on others.  Both believed that progress shouldn’t be easy, but Nietzsche thought that people need to “will” themselves better, not have their hand held while doing it.  They ought to strive to attain that self-overcoming excellence.

Mormon.org may be weak according to Nietzsche’s ideals.  He would say that the site should be built “as if” it were speaking to other people that were already the way Mormons are trying to be.  As Greg Wurm, our fellow WCC, put it, “Nietzsche believed that when you create something, you should create it with the belief that the viewer/listener is a creator themselves. A writer would write to writers, a speaker speak to speakers, and a website designer to fellow web designers. Nietzsche wrote to the Over-man (The leader's that are changing the culture) - not to the masses.”

Mormon.org’s aim hasn’t been this, and perhaps intentionally.  This approach may be offending or standoffish to some.  However, Nietzsche certainly believed in following the examples of those who are further along in their progression.  Mormon.org seems to delicately offer this aspect.
